According to the criteria set forth at the start of the unit (see below for a list),
is No Country for Old Men a Western film?
1. Westerns take place in one of three eras: (I) conquering the Western Frontier, (II) establishing law and order, and (III) the death of the Western Myth and the birth of the Industrial Age.
2. In the Western, the code of the West is founded in the notion of personal honor and private justice, not the abstract philosophy of law and government.
3. Common Western motifs include few against many, the life of the nameless nomadic gunfighter, man against the harsh ruggedness of nature and 'savagery.'
4. Early-to-mid century Western tales are often morality tales; later Westerns explore the ambiguity of such naivete and question whether or not life actually does have value.
5. Just because a film takes place in the west, does not necessarily make it a Western.

Why I think that Moss was not Immoral but also was not moral. He was just an average Joe trying to make life better for his wire and himself. he must of figured that hey there a lot of money no one around and that and it was owned by bad people and it wouldn't hurt to take it for a better life. yes he didn't do anything for his wife but then again he did't do anything for himself with the money. He also wouldn't cheat on her proof from a scene in the movie were a women offered him to drink with her. so he is just an average Joe not immoral or moral.

I'm not disagreeing with your perception on Moss. What I am disagreeing with is your perception on morals. Being average has nothing to do with being moral or immoral.
DeleteI agree with you because being average does have some things to do with being immoral and moral. In this particular movie, Moss was an average Joe and he didn't really do anything really bad. He was pretty average and that makes him neither moral or immoral. If he wasn't average or ordinary, I feel like it'd either make him moral or immoral.
